Church in Paštiky
Church of St. John the Baptist is located in the small village Paštiky in South Bohemia, two kilometres northeast of Blatná. It was built in 1747-1753 on the site of a former church according to the plans of the Baroque master Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. The interior decoration, in the same style as the exterior of the building, is the work of the woodcarver Ferdinand Ublaker and the painter J.V Spitzer also from the mid-18th century.
It is a one-nave building with a square chancel, both richly divided by ledges and pilasters. The nave is separated by a vaulted arch, at it ends there is a choir with a Rococo organ. Above the entrance to the church there are sculptures, so-called "Death in Paštiky". The outer walls of the church and the tower are decorated with other massive and richly structured cornice.
There is also a cemetery by the church, whose eastern end is guarded by a gate decorated with stone skulls and a cup. The cemetery chapel is also built according to Dientzenhofer's plans and there is a crypt under it. In the middle of the 19th century this chapel was converted into a family tomb of the Hildprandt family, the Lords of Blatná.
The church is located on a high terrace with a double staircase and its architecture from the end of Dientzenhofer's life
is a harmonious work of three outstanding Baroque artists of the time.
