Devil´s stones
With its unusual shape, large stones have attracted people's attention since time immemorial as they commanded respect and admiration. For a long time, however, people could not explain their origin correctly and considered them to be the work of supernatural beings, especially devils. In their fantasies, they conquered them with simple stories in which they tried to portray their origins. Several legends relate to the most significant stones in the Blatná region. People kept passing them from generation to generation and oral presentation kept them as a precious memory of our ancestors. Depending on the imagination of the various narrators, they took on several forms; but in all of them the devil is the main actor.
The most interesting stone blocks - and also their most romantic formations - are located in the southwestern part of Blatná
region. Surroundings of villages Vrbno, Málkov, Lnáře, Kadov, Slatina, Pole are dotted with stones. There is a plenty of
huge boulders, both individually and in interesting formations. The boulder decay of porphyry granite has become a hallmark
of the local landscape. Groves and islets, formed by individual boulders sunk deep into the terrain and often topped with
a bowl, divide this hillside, rich in valleys, ponds and magnificent views of the Brdy and Šumava. Among the most precious
geological formations are undoubtedly Kadov rocking stone as well as remarkably stacked forms of granite blocks with the mysterious
names Devil's Bracelet and Devil's Travel Bag.
