The nature trail “Nature and forests of the Šumava mountains in Chanovice” leads form the chateau grounds through the
park and the Chlum hill (608m) to the exposition of folk architecture. Not only does it focus on natural attractions but also
on the long journey of forest regeneration from seed to utilization of wood raw material. It also offers nice views of the
surrounding area and the Šumava mountains. At nine stops it acquaints visitors with important plants, animals and geological
conditions in our surroundings. It also gives an insight into the work of the state enterprise Lesy České republiky and
the activities of the Hunting Association Chanovice. An interesting feature is the Žižka‘s Stone which is related to
the legend of Žižka‘s troops travelling through the Prácheň region. A part of the trail is also a stop at a forest house
from 1847 which marks the beginning of a local traditional woodworking. The trail leads toward a viewing tower, the construction
of which was taken care of by the village of Chanovice and the civic association Panoráma. The lookout tower on top of the
Chlum Hill is built with the motto „The Prácheň region in the palm of your hand“, it is 30 m high and you can see the
whole Šumava mountains from it, from Šumava to the Český Krumlov region, also Blatná Region and the Brdy Highlands.
